Delaware City Bistro and Barbeque has quietly opened at at  92 Clinton St. That’s the former location of the  Lewinsky’s on Clinton restaurant-bar.

As the name indicates, the restaurant offers barbecue, as well as burgers and daily specials.

Delaware City, which should see a growth spurt from the redevelopment of the Fort DuPont  property, has been in need of another restaurant after the closing of Lewinsky’s. Delaware City is home to the popular Crabby’s Dick’s dining spot.

A few more days for the Green Room

Delaware Public Media  is reporting that the legendary Green Room at the Hotel DuPont will stay open for a few more days, due to the number of diners who want one last meal.

The Green Room had been slated to close at the end of December.

New hotel owners PM Hotels-Buccini/Pollin Group plan to give the space a makeover and reopen it as a French-inspired dining spot.

The Green Room will be under the direction of   Philadelphia chef  Tyler Akin who grew up in the Wilmington area. Click here for earlier story.

Two Stones didn’t skip a beat

We stopped in to check out how things were going at the new location for Two Stones Pub.

The chain, recently departed  its first location in the Brookside neighborhood south of Newark to a new building near I-95 and Route 273 in Ogletown. Two Stones now has a half a dozen gastropubs in northern Delaware and Pennsylvania, as well as a brewing company in Delaware County, PA.

A couple of days after the opening, there were no signs of new restaurant jitters.

Service was prompt and friendly.

Our dining companions had high praise for the burgers and the french fries got rave reviews. The standard potato chips were fine, but kicking in a little extra for the fries is a good idea.

One of the specials of the day was a  massive  fried chicken sandwich with a potato chip batter. that overwhelmed the bun. Be warned. It’s more than than twice the size of  Popeyes sandwiches.

In nibbling at the edges, the patty seemed a little dry, but once you  could bite into the sandwich, the combination of bun,  mustard sauce, cheese  and pickle moved it up several notches into the must have category.

i also checked out one of the house 2SP beers, which went well with the monster chicken.

Two Stones Pub is open for lunch and dinner and also offers brunch.

We  would be remiss in not mentioning another worthy restaurant in the area, the long-running Horace Shellhammer’s in University Plaza, across I-95 from Two Stones.

Shellhammer’s offers a wide selection of beer and gastropub items, including an item you don’t see everyday – Navajo tacos.

New management for The Chicken Spot

Speaking of chicken, The Chicken Spot at the former Benjamin’s on 10th Street in downtown Wilmington is temporarily closed. It  will reopen under new management in February.

Based on social media posts, management of the Tattooed Pig in Aston, Delaware County and the Plum Pit food truck will take over  the restaurant. The Plum Pit truck  makes the rounds in northern Delaware and adjacent areas of Pennsylvania.

Food truck owners have been making the transition to restaurants, one Wilmington example being Wildwich.  –  Doug and Sharon Rainey.
