Target is coming to the Prices Corner Shopping Center.
The company’s website added the site to its list of future stores. Reports of Target taking the former Sears store space had been circulating for months, with speculation increasing after the closing of the adjacent Sears Auto Center.
Plans have been filed for use of the auto center site as a bank and restaurant. Prices Corner is located off Kirkwood Highway and near Route 141.
No timeframe was listed for the opening of the Sears store, which will have 113,000 square feet of space.
Target has stores at Christiana Mall, Brandywine Town Center off Route 202 in north Wilmington and off DuPont Highway in Dover.
Target has been focusing on smaller store formats in big cities, tourist destinations and college towns with stores under 30,000 square feet. However, the Minneapolis-based retailer is also adding a smattering of stores with larger footprints.
Target may have its pick of locations as Sears and Kmart continue to close stores. The last Kmart in Delaware near Rehoboth Beach is expected to close next year.
The company has been cautious about expanding but has been reporting strong results, thanks in part to its clothing lines that appeal to fashion and value-conscious customers.
