The Delaware Department of Transportation announced that  Red Mill Road was opened to traffic at 1 p.m. on Friday.

The improvements made during the closure consisted of the widening and the realignment of the Red Mill Road intersection and roadway tie-in to Route 273.

Improvements included new road surfaces, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, median islands, a drainage system, and a new traffic signal.

The closing of Red Mill and Harmony roads east of Newark at different times over the summer made commutes difficult for motorists, especially for those working in the Ogletown-Christiana area south of Newark.

Legislators were able to convince DelDOT to not close both Harmony and Red Mill roads at the same time.
