Delaware’s gas price fell by nine cents over the past week as Saudi Arabia made headway on repairing a site hit by a drone attack.

The combination of lower crude oil prices (down more than $2  in the last week), as well as an increase in both oil and gasoline supplies, has kept local prices from rising further, Wilmington-based AAA Mid-Atlantic reported.

Southern New Jersey gas prices remained competitive with Delaware despite the Garden State’s gas tax being 18 cents higher than Delaware’s figure.

Delaware has benefited from its ower gas tax with some motorists filling up before heading back to their homes in other sates.

  • Pennsylvania gas average at $2.77 Monday, down 3 cents in the last week.
  • New Jersey gas average at $2.57 Monday, down 2 cents in the last week.
  • Delaware gas average at $2.43 Monday, down 9 cents in the last week.
  • Maryland gas average at $2.53 Monday, down 5 cents in the last week.
  • Philadelphia (5-county) area down 3 cents in the last week.

“After a week or so of price spikes at gas pumps around the Delaware Valley, oil and gas markets are starting to stabilize,” said Jana L. Tidwell, manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.  “Retail gas prices are heading lower in most areas in the Philadelphia 5-county region, but drivers could still see some fluctuation through the end of September as Saudi Arabia’s crude production returns to full capacity.”

As the Saudi facility returns to full capacity, pump prices are poised to return to their seasonal decline due to several factors, including less expensive crude oil prices, the drop-off in gasoline demand after Labor Day and the move to winter-blend gasoline (which occurred September 15).
