Cannabis giant Columbia Care is opening a third location in Delaware at popular shopping destination near Rehoboth.

The location is in the Tanger Outlets off Coastal Highway. Despite the tourism and visitor focus of the outlets, purchases are limited to people with Delaware medical marijuana cards from a physician. The number of cards has grown rapidly in the past couple of years.

The opening comes shortly after the publicly-traded company opened a location on Concord Pike in north Wilmington.

Columbia Care has a store and grow site in Smyrna.

The openings seem to indicate that the company is growing enough medical marijuana to serve a wider market.

The store is the second in Sussex County. First State Compassion Center has a second location near Lewes. Its grow site and another dispensary is just outside Wilmington.

The store is the sixth medical marijuana dispensary in Delaware and is likely to increase speculation that Columbia Care is preparing for the legalization of marijuana for recreational use.

Proposed legislation that did not get through General Assembly calls for sales of recreational marijuana to be confined to existing medical marijuana stores.
