[Not a valid template]Retired bankruptcy Judge Carey  joining  Hogan Lovells

Global law firm Hogan Lovells announced that   Kevin J. Carey will be joining the firm’s Business Restructuring and Insolvency Practice as a partner effective October 1. The firm has an office in Philadelphia and is based in London and Washington, D.C.

Carey joins the firm following his retirement on August 31 from the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware.

“Judge Carey’s superlative reputation is well earned—in his 18+ years on the bench, he presided over some of the largest and most significant Chapter 11 cases,” said Chris Donoho, global head of the Business Restructuring and Insolvency Practice. “He is a great resource for companies and creditors, and we expect that he will play key roles—as examiner or fiduciary—in bankruptcy cases and restructurings across the U.S. and internationally. He also has the cross-border experience needed to be a facilitator in multinational proceedings.”

Carey served as United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 2001 to 2005, before being appointed to the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware. He issued more than 200 written decisions from the bench in Delaware.

Carey is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, a member of the Board of the American Bankruptcy Institute, and a member of the International Insolvency Institute. He also was the Global Chair of the Turnaround Management Association, and  lectures worldwide on bankruptcy issues.

 Mozal joins Potter Anderson

Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP, Wilmington,  announced the addition of Nicholas D. Mozal as counsel in the corporate litigation practice. Mozal joins Potter Anderson after a clerkship with Vice-Chancellor Morgan T. Zurn of the Delaware Court of Chancery.

“We’re thrilled to be growing our Corporate Group with additions like Nick Mozal,” said Peter J. Walsh, Jr., chair of the firm’s Corporate Group. “Nick’s addition will strengthen our team’s already-robust Chancery litigation practice as well as bolster our roster of lawyers who have served on or clerked at the Court of Chancery.”

Potter Anderson partner Myron T. Steele, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Delaware, served as a Vice Chancellor for six years. Partners Peter J. Walsh, Jr., and J. Matthew Belger both clerked for the Delaware Court of Chancery prior to joining the firm.

Potter Anderson was recently named to Law360’s list of Delaware Powerhouse firms. The firm has previously been recognized for its successes in corporate litigation, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, alternative entities and more.

After law school, Mozal clerked for the Honorable Franklin S. Van Antwerpen in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He received a law degree from the Temple University Beasley School of Law in 2011 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science from Bucknell University in 2008.

British website uses Morris James name

Delaware-based Morris James announced it is not affiliated with a British website

“It has come to our attention that a website www.morrisjamessolicitors.com has been created and is not associated with Morris James LLP – a Delaware law firm.

The website claims to relate to a group of solicitors located in the United Kingdom who also claim to be affiliated with Morris James LLP in Delaware.

The domain name has since expired.

Morris James contacted the  FBI, Action Fraud team associated with United Kingdom police, and the Solicitors Regulation Authority in the United Kingdom and asked the website host to take down the website. The site is no longer listed.

Morris, Nichols makes Regional Powerhouse list

Law360 released its list of 2019 Regional Powerhouses, identifying Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP among the top Delaware law firms.

Hunter named Rising Star
