Motorists faced difficult conditions on Friday after delays in an overnight deck patching project on the Delaware Memorial Bridge led to delays on a busy summer travel day.
The Delaware River and Bay Authority issued an apology over delays on the southbound span of the bridge that produced back-ups on the New Jersey side of the twin-spans since three lanes were closed
The bridge that is older than most of the motorists who cross over it undergoes continuous maintenance that often closes one lane on weekdays.
We would like to apologize to our commuters & customers for the significant traffic issue this morning. An unforeseen issue impacted the overnight deck patching work on the DE bound span which delayed the lane openings this a.m. tjm @NJDOT_info @NJTurnpike

The bridge also has a sizable amount of commuter traffic from Salem County, NJ residents who work in Delaware.
3 right lanes closed on DE Bound Span due to overnight concrete pour. 3 lanes will be open to traffic at approx. 8:30 am. Expect significant delays. @NJTurnpike @NJDOT_info
