Man dead after shootout with Wilmington Police

Wilmington Police are investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred in the 2700 block of North Washington Street.

At  7:25 p.m.  Friday, police received a 911 call about shots fired in the area of 28th and Washington Streets.

Upon arrival, police officers found a man with a firearm. The man was actively firing the gun when officers arrived, a report indicated. 

Two Wilmington Police officers fired their department-issued firearms, striking the suspect.

The two officers were not injured.

Police rendered first aid to the suspect prior to the arrival of paramedics. The suspect, a 35-year-old male, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.

This incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards and the Delaware Department of Justice.

No further information was issued.
