Target says a store at the former Sears site at the Prices Corner Shopping Center west of Wilmington is not on the immediate horizon.

Liz Hancock, spokesperson for the discount retailer said the company is  “continually evaluating potential store locations to serve new guests, but I don’t have any new-store news to share at this time.”

She noted that the location is not listed on its directory of  future stores.

The list includes openings in 2019 and 2020. Target has been focusing on urban areas with smaller store formats. Target has Delaware stores at Christiana Mall, north Wilmington, and Dover.

A Lowe’s spokesman reported last week the home-improvement giant has no plans for the site. Lowe’s closed about four dozen stores earlier as it works to become more competitive with Home Depot, the largest chain in the category.

Speculation has been growing on the Sear’s store site, which was closed in early 2018.

The Kirkwood Highway area does not have a discount retailer other than a Walmart near the former GM Boxwood plant site. (Click on headline for link to an earlier story.
