The expected break in the heatwave is not expected to be a smooth affair for residents and businesses.

The Excessive Heat Warning is slated to expire at 10 p.m. on Sunday for Delaware and the region. The mercury hovered just below degrees on Sunday.

The high heat led to the cancelation of some events and lower attendance at others. In other cases, the events moved indoors, due to the combination of heating and humidity.

The National Weather Service will then put a large part of the region, including New Castle County into a Flash Flood Watch until Tuesday.

The temperature is expected to stay below 90 for the next week, with improving conditions from Wednesday through Sunday and temperatures in the ’80s and little chance of rain.
