Amtrak has an estimated 1,000 employees in Delaware as well as operations, dispatching, maintenance and car rebuilding in Wilmington and Bear.

The government-owned railroad is benefitting from security hassles at airports along the corridor but is seeing competition for leisure travelers from buses.
