Benesch adds 2 lawyers to Wilmington office

[Not a valid template]Benesch announced  the additions of Sean Meluney and Kate Harmon to the firm’s Litigation Practice Group in Wilmington. 

Meluney is a veteran of both trial and appellate courts at the state and federal level.  His practice encompasses the full range of complex litigation, including breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, business divorce, partnership disputes, and securities fraud. Sean also represents employers and employees in expedited matters relating to the enforcement of restrictive covenants, trade secrets, and contractual non-competition provisions, as well as matters including wage and hour, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, breach of contract, unfair competition and wrongful termination claims.

Harmon has experience handling all aspects of complex commercial litigation, corporate litigation, bankruptcy litigation, corporate governance, entity formation, non-profit representation, insurance coverage disputes, compliance and intellectual property matters across various state and federal courts.

The addition of Meluney and Harmon to the firm’s Wilmington office is part of Benesch’s national growth strategy.

The firm continues to build its presence in Chicago and San Francisco, as well.  In all, just over 70 attorneys have joined the firm in the last 18 months.  Since making its debut on the AmLaw 200 list in 2016, the firm has advanced 15 places and is currently ranked at number 180.

Meluney received his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 2010 and his B.S. from Binghamton University in 2006.

Harmon received her J.D. from Temple University School of Law in 2009, her Masters in Social Services and Masters in Law and Social Policy from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research in 2005, and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Delaware in 2002.

Wilcox joins law firm of  Moore and Rutt

The law firm of Moore and Rutt, P.A. announced that Scott G. Wilcox has joined the firm working in both the Georgetown office and its new Wilmington office.

Everett Moore said,  “We are pleased to welcome Scott to the firm. He brings a wealth of litigation experience as well as experience with local governments and in land use and in construction law. This will allow us to increase our services to our clients in these areas.”

Scott has over 19 years of litigation experience representing government entities, national home builders, and business
and corporate clients in all State Courts and the Federal District Court for the District of Delaware. He has previously served as co- counsel with Moore and Rutt representing its agricultural based clients.

Prior to his 13 years in private practice, Scott was a First Assistant County Attorney with New Castle County where he represented a number of departments and agencies including the Department of Land Use and the New Castle County Police. Scott also served as a Deputy Attorney General in the State of Delaware.
Mr. Wilcox is a graduat e of the University of Delaware and received his J.D. from the Thomas J Cooley School of Law in 1999.

Law firm  firm, Greenberg Traurig, LLP was one of the sponsors of the 14th Annual Art Connolly Race Judicata, benefiting the Delaware Law Related Education Center, Inc. (DELREC). The race took place on April 20 at Kelly’s Logan House in Wilmington.

DELREC is a nonprofit organization that has provided services to Delaware’s schools and the community for nearly a decade; its most widely-known programs are the Delaware High School Mock Trial Competition, the “We the People” Competition, and “Law Day.” 

Justin Mann, a corporate associate in Greenberg Traurig’s Delaware office, served as the race event co-chair and raised over $13,000 for the benefit of DELREC.

Morris James attorneys get rare fee win

Morris James attorneys’ Jeff Waxman’s  and Eric Monzo’s representation of the ad-hoc Construction Lienholder Group in the M&G bankruptcy cases resulted in a rare allowance of $1.6 million legal fees and expenses after a bankruptcy judge found they made substantial contributions to M&G’s Chapter 11 cases.

United States Bankruptcy Judge Brendan L. Shannon issued a 14-page opinion in which the Court found that Morris James LLP and Province Inc., legal counsel and financial adviser to an ad hoc group of construction lienholders, respectively, “demonstrably and materially” facilitated the deeply complex process of reorganization for the international plastics-related chemical producer.

Morris, Nichols partner an editor on mergers and acquisitions handbook

The American Bar Association Business Law Section has published a new book titled, The Role of Directors in M&A Transactions: A Governance Handbook for Directors, Management and Advisors. Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP partner Patricia O. Vella is one of four editors of the Handbook that gives directors, management, and legal and financial advisors a framework for providing effective oversight of merger and acquisition deals.

The Handbook is a product of the Joint Task Force on Governance Issues Arising in Business Combination Transactions of the ABA Business Law Section’s Mergers and Acquisitions and Corporate Governance Committees. Tricia served as a co-chair of the Task Force since 2011.
