The Delaware Department of Transportation on Friday briefly closed a deteriorating bridge/overpass over Interstate 95 at Chapman Road in the Ogletown area south of Newark
The bridge has been targeted for replacement, due to deterioration of the existing concrete deck and substructure, and the loss of a section of the existing steel girders causing structural problems.

The Chapman Road bridge has been closely monitored since it ranked 58th on the 2016 DelDOT Bridge Deficiency List (out of 1,625 bridges in the state).
The bridge had been slated for replacement, with a construction start date of spring 2020 and an end date of summer 2021.
The new bridge will be constructed on a new alignment adjacent to the existing bridge, which will minimize traffic impacts, DelDOT. A public workshop was held in February.
