Good afternoon,

After former Vice President Joe Biden finally announced his candidacy for president, the BillyPenn.com website was quick to take a light and sometimes less than gentle look at what a successful candidacy might mean for Philadelphia.

It will be interesting to see what will happen to BillyPenn under new public media owner  WHYY.  For now, the site has some good material.

The Biden satire business has been strip-mined in the past. The Onion website was quick to exploit Biden’s penchant for gaffes, aviator sunglasses and love of Chevrolet Corvettes. Memes of Biden abound. (See above).

Thanks to the wonders of Photoshop and some sharp writing, Biden morphed into a hard-drinking, motorcycle loving bad boy. Other than his love of fast cars, the portrayal was fictional. Biden’s not a biker and does not touch alcohol.

The News Journal’s popular culture reporter, Ryan Cormier was quick to pick up on the trend.   During  Biden’s vice presidential years, Ryan  chimed in  with stories   about the quirky popularity of Biden as a “crazy uncle.”

The  BillyPenn post leads to a more serious question.

Where would the Biden presidential library be located?  The University of Delaware would seem to be a natural fit for its most famous alumnus.

Then again, Biden has built ties with the University of Pennsylvania.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves. Biden faces a long road in dealing with an entertaining slate of Democratic hopefuls advocating everything from student loan forgiveness to Medicare  for all.

Once past that hurdle, he will face the Tweeter and Chief, who has already labeled Biden “Sleepy Joe and questioned his intelligence.

Fasten your seatbelts we’re in for a wild ride.
