Delaware ranks eighth as one of the best places for women on the move in the U.S.

Delaware had the second-highest median earnings for its female workers and the third lowest gap in pay for comparable jobs between males and females, the Move.org report indicated. Delaware has a large number of large corporate employers that address issues such as the male-female pay gap.

The report used a variety of factors in ranking all  50 states and the District of Columbia as good places for women to live.

Other factors working in favor of Delaware’s ranking included birth control coverage without a copay or deductible, a low percentage of uninsured women and below average rents. Also factors the rankings were crime and the availability of higher education.

While not a direct factor in the rankings, the commentary mentioned the lack of a sales tax in the First State.

Delaware ranked just behind Hawaii in the report. Washington, DC was in first place. Both of the top areas had high costs of living.

Ranking at the bottom was Alabama.
