AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware, a Medicaid managed care health in Delaware formally  opened a new community wellness center in Delaware.

AmeriHealth Caritas marked the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring AmeriHealth Caritas Chairman and CEO Paul Tufano, Delaware health care officials, and other business and civic leaders.

The center, located at Glendale Plaza Shopping Center at 1142 Pulaski Highway (U.S. Route 40) in Bear, provides local residents with access to health and wellness educational resources. AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware members are able to obtain information about health benefits, care management services, and assistance with medical appointment scheduling and transportation.

“This new community wellness center embodies our commitment to nurturing healthy citizens and healthier communities,” Tufano said. “We want Delawareans to have access to the support and services they need to achieve their goals for wellness, and in a welcoming environment with people who understand the challenges they face in leading healthier lives.”

AmeriHealth Caritas “takes a comprehensive, whole-person approach to helping members achieve positive health outcomes,” Tufano stated.  “Some residents, especially those in disadvantaged communities, are often faced with challenges that present barriers to their well-being, such as unemployment, food insecurity, low levels of education, violence and housing instability.”

AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware Market President Emmilyn Lawson said the new community wellness center will help the organization take a more comprehensive approach in addressing its members’ health care needs.

“We are excited about AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware opening a new community wellness center in our state,” said Dr. Kara Odom Walker, Cabinet Secretary for the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services and a board-certified family physician. “As a doctor, I know so much of what my patients need cannot be provided through a prescription. They often need support with housing, employment, nutrition and transportation – the social determinants of health. This community center is an important step forward in treating the whole person and meeting communities where they are.”

The center is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  For more information, visit www.amerihealthcaritasde.com or call 1-844-623-7090.
