The Movies on Tap team and Dogfish Head Brewery recently presented a check for $10,640 to Urban Bike Project Wilmington at Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton.

[Not a valid template]As the largest, single Movies-on-Tap fundraiser to date, the donation came from the 2018 season finale featuring the 1989 classic film, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and beer from Dogfish Head Brewery and Breakthru Beverage Group (Beer Distributor for Dogfish Head). A record 600 people attended the sold-out season finale, which filled seven theaters.

Urban Bike Project Wilmington supports Wilmington communities by providing access to bicycling as a healthy, affordable, and practical means of transportation and recreation.

Movies on Tap is a monthly, interactive tasting series that features meet-and-greet tasting opportunities with local brewers and brewery representatives while providing a rare opportunity to view cult-classic films on the big screen. Tickets cost $20, and include a movie, beer samples, and popcorn — with 100% of proceeds (ticket sales) benefiting brewer’s charity of choice.

In April, Movies on Tap enters its fourth year, the result of an ongoing partnership with Penn Cinema Riverfront, Out & About Magazine and Harvey, Hanna & Associates. Currently, the Movies on Tap campaign has helped raise more than $106,000 for local non-profits. During this Friday’s event (2/22), for the first time, Movies on Tap will offer wine in addition to the traditional servings of craft beer.

Mountaire gears up for Easter box meal  program

Mountaire Farms is again gearing up to feed hungry families on Delmarva. The company is seeking volunteers who want to help pack 2,500 food boxes at their warehouse in Selbyville on Tuesday, April 16.

For the past few decades, Mountaire has donated a complete meal in a box to needy families at Thanksgiving, at Christmas, and at Easter. A local food drive at area grocery stores and schools before Thanksgiving helps supplement the effort.

Volunteers from over 35 local churches, food pantries and shelters will arrive on April 16th and begin preparing boxes of food – including a Mountaire Roaster – then delivering them to their respective churches for distribution to families in need. The boxes packed at the event will provide a nutritious Easter meal to more than 11,250 members of our local community.

“Mountaire is proud to host this charitable, faith-based initiative during the Easter season,” said President Phillip Plylar. “Our employees enjoy giving back to the community and taking part in such a great event. Giving back is what this company is all about.”

The  Food Bank of Delaware received a $43,000 donation from Dunkin’ of greater Philadelphia to help hunger relief efforts throughout the region. The donation is a combined effort from Dunkin’s ‘Roast Hunger’ program and Dunkin’s Joy in Childhood Foundation, with $33,000 donated from Dunkin’s ‘Roast Hunger’ program and $10,000 donated from Dunkin’s Joy in Childhood Foundation.

After the check presentation, local Dunkin’ franchisees also performed a volunteer session.

Endowment for the Arts approves $10,000 challenge grant for Shakespeare Festival

The National Endowment for the Arts approved a Challenge America grant of $10,000 to Delaware Shakespeare Festival. The grant will support the 2019 Community Tour production of Romeo and Juliet.

Challenge America grants support projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations.

“Delaware Shakespeare is honored to be the recipient of this NEA Challenge America grant,” said David Stradley, producing artistic director of Delaware Shakespeare. “Our Community Tours bring professional theatre to the full spectrum of humanity in our community by traveling to non-traditional venues such as prisons, homeless, shelters, and mental health facilities. They have been transformative for the organization and for audiences. The national recognition and support for this program from the NEA is a welcome affirmation for the vital necessity of this work.”
