Problems with the social media network Facebook have been reported on Wednesday.

Facebook responded by going on Twitter to comment and report that the problem was not an attack on service that can be instigated by an individual or even a government entity. The problem reportedly extended to Instagram, Facebook’s photo-driven service.

Facebook business pages, including  Delaware Business Now,  have experienced problems in posting content to the social media site and in using third-party apps that automatically repost content from websites.

The problems are unusual since the inability to post has gone on for hours. Facebook problems are generally short-ived

The problems also extended to personal pages.

The Down Detector website that monitors outages reported the outages were most common on the East and West coasts in the U.S. as well as portions of South America and Europe.

The outage came on a busy news day that included the grounding by the Federal Aviation Administration of the  Boeing 737 Max jet and the second sentencing for former Trump campaign director Paul Manafort. Many people around the world read news content on Facebook.
