A small Maryland pit barbecue chain will open its first Delaware location on Tuesday.
The site of Chaps Pit Beef is 19791 Coastal Hwy, Rehoboth Beach, across the street from the oldest Tanger outlets location.
It will be the fourth location for Chaps, which has other restaurants in Baltimore, Aberdeen, and Frederick, MD.
Pit beef is a Baltimore mainstay with restaurants and roadside stands offering roast beef with a light smoky flavor.
Chaps gained national recognition with Food Network host Guy Fieri and the late Anthony Bourdain paying visits to the Baltimore location. Fieri recently visited a handful of restaurants in Wilmington during his first visit to Delaware but has yet to hit the beach area.
Southern Delaware is no stranger to pit beef, thanks to the long-running Bull on the Beach in Ocean City, MD. Bull on the Beach has two locations and operated an outpost at the Rehoboth outlets for a few years.
