Newport police chief pleads guilty to misconduct, careless driving charges


Michael Capriglione, chief of police for the Town of Newport, pleaded guilty to charges stemming from official misconduct.

In May 2018, Capriglione ordered the deletion of a surveillance video, which showed him striking another vehicle in the parking lot of Newport Police Department while driving a department vehicle.

Capriglione pled guilty to Official Misconduct and Careless Driving and will be sentenced following a pre-sentence investigation by the court.
