New Castle County’s summer youth employment program is underway with application materials now available online at  www.newcastlede.gov/syep  and summer job fair application events set for Saturday, March 9 in Middletown and Saturday, March 23 in New Castle.

The New Castle County Summer Youth Employment Program is designed to engage low income County residents ages 14-20 in meaningful paid work-based learning that helps participants launch their careers.

“This summer we’re offering more summer youth employment than ever before in county history,” said County Executive Matt Meyer. “Complete an application, bring it to one of our summer job fairs on March 9 and March 23 and explore your career path this summer.”

The Summer Youth Employment Program exposes youth – many for the first time – to employment environments that enable them to explore a variety of occupations in and around New Castle County while getting paid for their time.

This year’s program, which runs from June 17 through August 23, will be available to more than 200 participants.  In 2018, the County’s Summer Youth Employment Program hired 200 youth who were assigned to 74 worksites across New Castle County, including sites  in and around the City of Wilmington.

New Castle County leverages state, county and private sector funding to provide paid summer employment opportunities throughout county government and in local partnering non-profit service providers.  Hiring preference is given to youth from low-income families.

In 2019, for the second year in a row, expanded summer youth employment opportunities are made possible  through a partnership with West End Neighborhood House and the   financial support of the Citi Foundation.
