Christiana Care Health System will consolidate much of its administrative and support services at the Avenue North campus, a mixed use development in on the site of the AstraZeneca campus, at the intersection of Concord Pike and Powder Mill Road in Fairfax.
Avenue North is expected to become the largest development of its kind in New Castle County, and will include corporate offices, restaurants, retail, residences and a hotel.
The news follows an announcement that water chemical company Solenis was moving to Avenue North from a location on Beaver Valley Road, near the upper end of Concord Pike.
“We are excited to make this continued commitment to New Castle County as we work to deliver optimal health and an exceptional experience of care to everyone we serve, and as we continue to evolve as a national leader in transforming care,” said Janice E. Nevin, CEO.
Plans are still in development to determine which offices or departments within Christiana Care will be moved to the Avenue North campus.
Christiana Care has administrative and support services staff throughout the northern New Castle County.
“Avenue North creates an opportunity for Christiana Care to consolidate many of these offices together, reducing costs and increasing efficiency,” said Sharon Kurfuerst, chief operating officer. “As we continue to improve access to care for our community, consolidation of many of our non-clinical services at Avenue North will also free up space at Christiana Hospital and Wilmington Hospital to improve or expand patient care services at those locations.”
“We are honored that the state’s largest private employer has chosen to consolidate operations at Avenue North,” said Ernest Delle Donne, chairman of Delle Donne & Associates. “As leading companies like Christiana Care come together on this campus, the rapid success of the project’s office component will enhance synergies and interactions of the entire area. This will propel the live-work-play environment that we envision, which will be unsurpassed by any other development in the region.”
DelleDonne purchsed the former AstraZeneca Fairfax site from the pharmaceutical company. AstraZeneca retained offices at the site.
