A strong January for DBN’s website

Good afternoon everyone,

While this newsletter remains our core product, Delaware Business Now’s website fell just short of another record-breaking performance in a shortened month.

February’s visitor total came close to matching the record set a month earlier.  January page views were up 21 percent from a strong January 2018. Readers typically put on their business hats in January after making fewer visits to the site during the busy holiday period.

Granted, our numbers don’t match up to the traffic  racked up by the legacy media. Then again, we are a “vertical” site with readers looking for business content that gets far less traffic than car accidents and crime stories.

Here are the top stories for February.

  1. Troopers ticket 49 drivers for texting and other forms of distracted driving during 4-hour sweep on Concord Pike
  2. Northern Delaware gets up to 4.5 inches of snow from 2 storms
  3. Christiana’s  Graham Cancer Center among the first to offer new treatment for a rare form of cancer
  4. Trending: Eggspectation breakfast-brunch spot coming to Stanton-Christiana
  5. 2nd medical marijuana dispensary in northern New Castle County to open on Friday
  6. Pettinaro to reveal plans for smaller Barley Mill Plaza development.

As noted above, readers did pay attention to a piece on the four-hour crackdown on distracted driving on Concord Pike that netted dozens of violators.

While not strictly a business story, distracted driving is drawing attention from insurance companies as accident totals rise. We also heard from salespeople and other road warriors who pointed out instances of distracted driving. A slow response to a green light is one telltale sign.

 Also popular were weather stories.

The region did not see any of the massive accumulations that hit the Midwest.  But storms this winter had their nasty side and tend to come during commutes. Today is a good example.

Once again,  a big thank you goes out  to our  advertisers for their steadfast support that has allowed us to steadily improve our coverage and live up to our motto, “News Now –  Not Later.”

Enjoy your weekend and be careful out there. We’ll be back on Monday. – Doug and Sharon Rainey.
