FAME  gets funds from Boeing for STEM program

 Wilmington-based  FAME, Inc. is once again a recipient of The Boeing Company’s global giving efforts.

The grant for an undisclosed amount will support FAME, Inc.’s STEMulate  Change Outreach Initiative provides Delaware out-of-school Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning opportunities for students in grades K-6. 

STEMulate  Change engages youth in Project Based Learning methods which motivate students to increase engagement in STEM subjects and build skills to pursue STEM-related careers and professions.

FAME, Inc.’s CEO,  Donald L. Baker II, said  “We can’t thank The Boeing Company enough for their generous support! Our partnership helps fill the demand for the Next Generation of STEM learners with the ever-growing need for a STEM-ready workforce. The Boeing Company has helped us reach over 10,000 students and families over the last two years. FAME, Inc. will reach an unprecedented number of Delawareans in 2019 thanks to this grant from The Boeing Company.” Overall, The Boeing Company’s corporate giving is focused on increasing access to globally competitive STEM learning in underserved and under-represented communities as well as supporting a variety of issues unique to the communities where the company operates.

Boeing has a helicopter production site near the Philadelphia International Airport and employs a sizable number of Delawareans.

Established in 1976, FAME, Inc. is one of the nation’s oldest STEM non-profit education organizations.

Leaders Alliance receives  grant from Longwood Foundation

Wilmington Leaders Alliance announced it has received a grant from the Longwood Foundation. These funds will support and expand the WLA’s city-centric Workforce Development Initiative.

The funding additionally will support Teen Violence Reduction, another area of focus for the Wilmington Leaders Alliance. The amount was not announced.

The WLA has worked as a catalyst to increase capacity to provide workforce training, education and internship placement within the City and increase employment of Wilmington-based residents at Wilmington-based employers.

The WLA has received funding to continue its partnership with Generation US through its Universal Banker Program to graduate and place 200 residents in living wage jobs in the financial industry through partner employers.

Additionally, the WLA will expand its workforce development efforts to the Construction and Trade sectors by training and placing 200 residents in living wage jobs and pre-apprenticeship opportunities in those sectors in partnership with ABC Delaware and Williamson College of the Trades.

Natural History Museum wins nonprofit honor

The Delaware Museum of Natural History received a DonorPerfect Excellence in Fundraising Award.

The awards are given annually to organizations that demonstrate outstanding achievement toward raising funds to make a difference in the communities they serve. This is the fifth year that newsletter software giant Constant Contact has sponsored the awards.

The museum in Greenville was recognized as the Fastest Growing Nonprofit – Small Division Winner:  The Museum of Natural History reported 188 percent growth in their revenue in 2018.

Iron Hill gives back

Delaware-based  Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant announced it has raised funds for community organizations in Delaware and elsewhere in its Mid-Atlantic footprint.

CEOs Against Cancer holds dinner for  guests at AstraZeneca Hope Lodge

A number of the leaders from the Tri State Chapter of  the American Cancer Society’s CEOS Against Cancer hosted dinner for guests residing at American Cancer Society’s AstraZeneca Hope Lodge last month.

The Hope Lodge provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers who travel to Philadelphia to receive lifesaving cancer treatment at one of the city’s hospitals.

The Tri State Chapter of CEOs Against Cancer has 21 members representing 1.7 million employees globally.

Astra Zeneca has 1,500 employees in Delaware.
