The proposal by Ørsted to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is in response to a solicitation from the State of New Jersey.
Ørsted, which launched the world’s first offshore wind farm in 1991 and owns and operates the United States’s firm offshore wind farms near Block Island, Rhode Island, proposes its “Ocean Wind” project 15 miles from Atlantic City.
Delaware is now discussing wind farms after failed Bluewater Wind effort off Rehoboth Beach. Two wind farm projects are moving forward in Maryland, including one near at the coast off Fenwick Island, DE.
The Maryland projects have drawn fire from Ocean City residents and other critics who claim the project is too expensive.
