Christiana Care bars those under 16 from visiting patients as flu cases increase

Christiana Care Health System is implementing temporary age restrictions for hospital visitors as the number of flu cases increases.

Christiana is the state’s largest health system.

Only people 16 or older should visit the hospitals. Only parents, grandparents and parents’ designees are permitted to visit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

The restrictions will be in place until further notice at Christiana and Wilmington hospitals.

The restriction does not apply to outpatient and ambulatory services.

An alert stated that Children and teens younger than 16   are most likely to get the flu and remain contagious longer than adults.

Christiana, like other health care providers advises Delawareans to get flu shots.
