An upscale restaurant in Milford is closing its doors later this month.

WBOC TV talked to owner Kevin Reading, who said the growth in restaurants in Milford made the going tough for Abbott’s Grill & Bald Jason’s Pub,  which featured farm to table menu items.

Reading told WBOC he will retain the restaurant’s other location in Laurel in western Sussex County. The long-time restauranteur is also an owner of the  Brick Works brewpub which has a location in Smyrna and plans to add a second restaurant in Long Neck in Sussex County.

Abbott’s Grill also posted the following on its Facebook page

Social media posts pointed to high prices and its location as drawbacks, but also praised  Abbott’s Grill for the quality of its food and the use of locally sourced foods.

Abbott’s Grill  had been in operation for nearly decade and was viewed  as a key part of the turnaround effort in the older area of the city.

The center of gravity may be shifting to the south with the opening this year of the new Bayhealth Sussex Campus, a health care complex with an estimated price tag of about $300 million.

The restaurant scene in Milford remains busy. It was recently announced that a former Bob Evans will become a steak and seafood establishment.
