Man charged after vehicle runs into Newark Mexican restaurant

Newark Police charged an Elkton, MD   man in connection with a vehicle hit a Newark restaurant.

Early Sunday morning, police were called to the to the McDonald’s Restaurant at 374 East Main Street for a report of a vehicle in the drive thru with a driver who showed signs of intoxication.

Arriving officers found Adam Adair, 27, in his vehicle.

As officers began to speak with him,  he  drove his vehicle down East Main Street at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, Adair’s vehicle struck the building housing  Santa Fe Mexican Grill at 190 East Main Street.  Officers arrived and took Adair into custody. 

Adair was charged with DUI, Possession of Marijuana and additional traffic offenses.  He was released to appear in Newark Alderman’s Court at a later date.

The City of Newark Building Department went  to the scene to assess the damage to the building.  The structure of the building was determined to be safe.
