United Way Worldwide (UWW) authorized the expansion of United Way of Delaware’s (UWDE) service area to include the zip codes of Salem County, NJ.

The UWDE Board of Directors has approved the service area expansion and has established the Salem County Advisory Committee, comprised of Salem County business and civic leaders, to guide development of the United Way brand in Salem County.

“United Way of Delaware has been serving the people of Delaware for more than 70 years, and we are thrilled to be bringing our same level of service, passion, and heart to the people of Salem County,” said UWDE President and Chief Executive Officer, Michelle A. Taylor.

Taylor  said  United Way  has long worked with corporate partners whose businesses and employees work and/or live in both Salem County and Delaware, and that the “trip across the bridge” into Salem County is a natural extension of these relationships.

Taylor said UWDE’s immediate priorities are to establish transparent working relationships with Salem County partner agencies, analyze and prepare to address social service needs in Salem County, leverage existing business relationships for the benefit of Salem County agencies, and to prepare for a fundraising campaign early in 2019.

She said UWDE has established a Salem County Advisory Committee comprised of county business and civic leaders and she stressed that all funds raised in Salem County will be invested in Salem County exclusively.

Commenting on  the  move into Salem County, Betsy Amoroso, senior director of corporate communications at Mannington Mills, Inc., said, “Mannington welcomes United Way of Delaware to the Salem County community.  We are pleased to be part of a growing circle of support as they establish a presence here, and we look forward to working together for the benefit of the community as a whole.”

United Way of Delaware, based in Wilmington, was founded in 1946 and in addition to Salem County, New Jersey, also serves New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties in Delaware, and administers the Delaware 2-1-1 help line.
