Media update: Jeff Neiberg’s story of family, sports and a life challenge

You might have noticed fewer business stories in the News Journal over the past couple of months.

Jeff Neiberg left the paper/website over the summer to work as the Sabers reporter for the Buffalo News. Jeff’s background is in sports reporting and covering a National Hockey League team is a big deal.

As many in the business know, sports reporters, accustomed to writing on deadline, are versatile.

Such was the case with Neiburg, who turned out solid work in covering a vast and challenging beat.

Last month, Jeff resigned from his post at the News.

I will leave it to Jeff to tell his story. Prepare to shed a tear or two as you read a story about sports, family and facing a life-changing challenge.

Here is his post on Medium.

Meanwhile, it is not clear whether a replacement is on the way. The print edition of the NJ typically has wire stories on its business page as well as national items in its four-page USA Today section. Online coverage also has its gaps.

Karl Baker is listed as the lone business reporter.

It was not that long ago that the NJ had a business desk of five or more. Gannett cut even deeper when it axed business desks a few years ago.

Job postings currently show openings for a family reporter at the News Journal.
