Bayhealth recently acquired the Dover Surgicenter, thereby adding an outpatient surgery center to its Kent Campus.

Terms were not disclosed.

Orthopedic, podiatry, general surgery, ENT (otolaryngology), gastroenterology, pain management, plastic surgery, and oral surgery are the types of surgeries and procedures currently available at the new Bayhealth Surgery Center, Kent Campus.

As additional procedures are provided, the acquisition will further enhance Bayhealth’s ability to improve access to care to its patients while delivering it in a safe, high-quality environment, a release stated.

“The majority of the staff who were at the center before the acquisition are still there. This has made it possible to provide excellent experienced staff,” said Bayhealth Senior Vice President Brenda Blain, who oversees operations at the new Bayhealth Surgery Center, Kent Campus. “The convenience for patients is also amazing. You can’t beat the parking. Physicians benefit by quick turnaround and reliable start times with a dedicated staff focused on getting the patient home.”

Bayhealth Senior Vice President of Planning & Business Development John Van Gorp says the goal of the acquisition was to retain the surgery center’s efficiency and convenience to patients and physicians, while bringing the resources of Bayhealth to elevate the environment of care. “Bayhealth has invested and will continue to invest significantly to provide a state-of-the-art surgical environment,” he said.

Bayhealth and other health care systems are under pressure to reduce costs, with outpatient surgery centers not in a hospital setting being one way to accomplish that goal.
