Another option for craft brew lovers is slated to open on Philadelphia Pike in the Claymont area.
Hangman Brewing is building out space at 2703 Philadelphia Pike near Harvey Road. The company announced the location last week.
The brewery is shooting for an early 2019 opening at the Philadelphia Pike location.
The entry of Hangman is good news for redevelopment efforts in the Claymont-Philadelphia Pike corridor. Hyperlocal breweries are often the catalyst for other independent businesses and artisan enterprises.
Wilmington Brew Works has opened a short drive away in the Miller Road area at the edge of Wilmington. Brew Works is the city’s first production brewery in decades. Wilmington does have Stitch House and Iron Hill, both of which have mini-breweries for onsite consumption and carryout.
The formal announcement for Hangman was made on Thursday at Twin Lakes Brewery in Newport. The event featured local breweries and marked the anniversary of Thirsty Thursday feature of the Rick Jensen WDEL afternoon talk show that focuses on beer.
On hand for the Hangman announcement were County Executive Matt Myer and County Council members John Cartier and Ken Woods as well as SUEZ Public Affairs Manager Tom Hubbard. SUEZ is the water utility in the Newport and Claymont areas. The company has promised to work with potential employers in providing water for their operaitons.
