Delaware State University announces leadership appointments

Delaware State University has recently announced two new leadership appointments.

Jackie Griffith has been appointed as the University’s new Director of Government and Community Relations. [Not a valid template]

In this DSU leadership post, Griffith will maintain political advocacy efforts at the local, state and federal levels, as well as leverage community partnerships and contacts.

Griffith has served the State of Delaware for 19 years. Over the last year, she has been the chief of fiscal policy in the Office of the Controller General, a post in which she provided guidance and support to the members of the Delaware General Assembly regarding advance fiscal and policy matters.

She has an  Associate Degree in Financial Management from the Community College of the Air Force and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration Management from Wesley College in Dover.

Dr. Michael H. Casson Jr., associate professor of economics, has been appointed as the Interim Dean of the College of Business.

Casson is the founding executive director of the University Center for Economic Development and International Trade. He has been University College of Business faculty member since 2003.  During his tenure he has served as the interim dean of Graduate Studies, the interim chair of the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, as well as in other leadership positions.

He will serve as interim dean while a Search Committee works toward the selection of a permanent dean for the college.

Delaware Symphony Association announces directors

At their recent Annual Meeting, the Members of the Delaware Symphony Association elected three new directors to the Board of Directors.

Jimi Honochick serves as a research analyst for Wilmington Trust’s portfolio managers, providing bottom-up, fundamental research. He serves the group in the Consumer Discretionary sector with a particular expertise in Media. Honochick also brings industry experience to his Media research from his 5 years of working in television production.

David McBride is a partner at the law firm of Young, Conaway, Stargatt and Taylor, LLP. He concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate law and corporate and commercial litigation. He has been involved in many of Delaware’s significant corporate law cases, particularly in the area of mergers and acquisitions. He serves as an Appointed Member of the Committee on Corporate Laws of the Section of Business Law of the American Bar Association. Mc Bride is a member of the American Law Institute and the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Patricia Zaharkois a retired bank trust professional with 25 years of experience in wealth management. She managed over $750 million in personal trust accounts and private charitable foundations, business development and retention, estate planning, marketing, public relations and people management. She administered The Common Wealth Trust, a private charitable foundation that annually awards individuals and organizations for outstanding contributions in various fields. She was a director of Commercial Chemical Company and a founding director and past Treasurer of ArtCo, the governing organization for the $21.5 million Delaware Arts Stabilization Fund.

Bayhealth Orthopaedics adds surgeon

Bayhealth Orthopaedics, Dover announce the addition of orthopedic surgeon John R. Burger, DO.

Originally from Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, Dr. Burger comes to Bayhealth from the University of Missouri, where he was on an orthopedic surgery adult reconstruction fellowship. He earned his medical degree, as well as post-baccalaureate certification and a master’s in biomedical sciences, from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship and his orthopedic surgery residency at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Bayhealth Primary Care, Milford announced the addition of board-certified family medicine doctor Cindy Siu, MD. Jonathan Simon, MD, who is board-certified in internal medicine, joined the practice less than a year ago.

Prior to earning her medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia,  Siu received a master’s from Columbia University Institute of Human Nutrition in New York. She was the family medicine chief resident in the Christiana Care Health System before coming to Bayhealth.

Simon graduated with high honors from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St Kitts. With a natural interest in the sciences and desire to help people, it was not until later in life, after a successful business career, that he was able to pursue his passion for medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Pinnacle Hospitals in Harrisburg, PA. Simon is a member of the American College of Physicians. 

Beebe Family Practice adds physician

Beebe Healthcare and Beebe Medical Group welcomed Meghana Dhamdhere, MD, to Beebe Family Practice – Beacon.

Dhamdhere received her MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery), in 2002, from the Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, University of Mumbai, India, followed by her MRCS from the UK (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons), in 2007.

She completed rotations in the Emergency Department and broad surgical sub-specialties and Intensive Care in the UK.  She completed a preliminary General Surgery residency at the Hospital of University Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia in 2011, an Internal Medicine residency at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Bethlehem, PA, in 2014, and was most recently in a fellowship at Temple University Hospital, in Philadelphia.
