The  Newark  Catherine Rooney’s will have new names.

The Main Street Irish-theme restaurant was sold earlier this year by the restaurant group that kept its holdings and the flagship Catherine’s in Wilmington’s Trolley Square area.

The rebranding will occur as students return for the fall semester at the University of Delaware.

Catherine’s teased a new logo  on its Facebook page and offered the following:

“Whiskey 102. Opening soon in Newark!  The restaurant later reported that the upstairs space is being remodeled to reflect the whiskey theme. The 102 name reflects the 102 E. Main St. address of the establishment.

Also unveiled was the Finn McCool’s Gastropub name for the establishment itself.

Finn McCool’s is a popular name for Irish restaurants, with establishments bearing that name scattered around the country. The name comes from Irish mythology.

Catherine/Finn later reported that Whiskey 102 will be the name for the upstairs portion of the restaurant and that work was underway on the upstairs area that will house the establishment.

Whiskey is one of the latest trends in the restaurant business, with Finn-Catherine’s Main Street neighbor High Five recently opening Limestone BBQ and Bourbon near the busy intersection of Limestone Road and  Kirkwood Highway west of Wilmington. Other restaurants are holding special dinners that feature whiskeys.

High Five operates the successful Stone Balloon Ale House in Newark, along with several Buffalo Wild Wings franchised restaurants.

Finn McCool ’s is also expected to continue to feature live music.
