After a successful run that included innovative schools  and not falling victim to enrollment declines to charter and other schools, the head of Red Clay leaves for a similar post in a far larger school district in Virginia

Red Clay now has more students than the Christina district, which once had the higher enrollment. 

WHYY sat down Merv  Daugherty to talk about his work and future plans as he prepares in the fall to head a far larger district in the Richmond area.

 Daugherty’s worked his way up the ranks at Red Clay to become superintendent.
