Flash Flood watch issued for northern Delaware


The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch has been issued in northern Delaware. Showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening may result in heavy rain and flash flooding.

The ground has been saturated from heavy rains in recent weeks. That means rainfall of three inches or so can trigger flooding, especially along White and Red Clay creeks in northern New Castle County.

The saturated soil can also result in fallen trees from winds accompanyingthe storms. Chances of precipitation are about 60 percent.

High water was reported earlier this week in a number of areas of northern Delaware when three inches or more fell in some areas. Some vehicles were damaged, including some that attempted to cross areas with high water.
