Successful Bloosurf pilot  clears way for wireless Internet expansion

Telrad Networks, a global provider of telecom solutions,  announced that Bloosurf, an Internet Service Provider (ISP), has successfully gone through a pilot of a state-initiated wireless network, in Delaware.

The effort is aimed at bringing improved broadband access to more  Delaware citizens.

Delaware has among the nation’s highest broadband speeds. However, sizable portions of the state are not served by broadband providers. The two largest players are Comcast and Verizon FiOS.

A  wireless antenna system, WhyFly, serves portions of Wilmington.

The lack of broadband is also a major issue in businesses expanding or relocating in areas outside Dover and northern Delaware.

Bloosurf, a long-time Telrad customer, already operates a successful fixed LTE network in Maryland.

The ISP was the awarded bidder in a State of Delaware issued request for proposals to run a pilot network.

The network, using the Telrad BreezeCOMPACT 3000 base station, has been testing the technology ’s range and several features related to connectivity.

Gov. John Carney  is expected to officially announce future plans for the state network at the pilot tower site in Seaford. He also plans to visit a farm to discuss the need for high-speed access in agriculture.

Vincent Sabathier, founder and CEO of Bloosurf commented, “We have been working with Delaware officials to test one wireless tower and ensure that the performance of Telrad Networks’ LTE technology meets the requirements for this project. We have been very pleased with the network performance, and are sure that this equipment, optimized for fixed wireless, is suited for the expanded network. We’ve had a long relationship with Telrad and value them as a partner for their quality, carrier-class solution and excellent customer support.”

Bloosurf, founded in 2009 and headquartered in Salisbury, MD, operates the area’s only local high-speed wireless network.

Using a combination of fiber optic cable, and   4G technology, the firm offers affordable broadband internet service in Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset counties in Maryland, as well as northern Accomack and southern Sussex counties in Virginia and Delaware.
