The push is on to get an exit off Interstate 95 for a fast-growing business park in western Cecil County, MD, the Baltimore Sun and other media outlets reported.

A public meeting is slated for later this month.

The exit would ease access by the tractor-trailer units that use the Principo Business Park near Perryville, MD. Exits are currently available near North East and Perryville, MD.

The fast-growing business park has generated more than a thousand jobs as companies like Amazon, German grocer Lidl, Restoration Hardware and medical supplier Medline set up shop in the complex.

The park has received financial  assistance from both the state and Cecil County.

Other industries and businesses in the area would benefit from quicker highway access.

The park has also benefitted from the lack of greenfield and brownfield land available in New Castle County.

Two big projects, the former G.M. Boxwood plant site near Newark and the Evraz Steel site in Claymont are in the early stages of redevelopment and at some point will provide formidable competition for Principo.

The park has cut the unemployment rate of Cecil County, which has long suffered from high jobless numbers and many residents commuting to jobs in Baltimore and New Castle County.

The county is cut off to some extent by high tolls on the Tydings and Hatem bridges over the Susquehanna.
