Mark Kleinschmidt has been named the president of the Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce. He succeeds Bob Burden, who was CEO of the chamber based in Annapolis, MD.

Kleinschmidt resigned as the long-time president of the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce late last year. Anne Arundel has a comparable population to New Castle County.

“I look forward to new challenges, learning about a new community and continuing to help create opportunities for member companies while promoting economic growth,” Kleinschmidt stated. “A chamber of commerce can be perceived as a very conservative and traditional organization but it is still a very important business resource.  To be relevant they need to be reinvigorated with technology,  new activities and programs that meet the needs of the ‘new” economy’  and that is what I will bring to the Anne Arundel Chamber.”

Bob Chadwick, longtime No. 2 at the County Chamber was named president this year.

Since his resignation, Kleinschmidt had restarted M2K Associates,  a business consulting firm he had in operation before becoming New Castle County President.

Kleinschmidt plans to keep M2K Associates’ clients in DE and also provide small business assistance and finish up a masters degree in Economic Education and Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware.

Anne Arundel is a sprawling county along the Chesapeake Bay and includes Annapolis and Baltimore suburbs. In addition to the Anne Arundel Chamber, the county also has northern and southern Anne Arundel chambers.

Kleinschmidt is used to having other Chambers in the area with northern  Delaware having both a State Chamber and more recently a Small Business Chamber.
