Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield names new Delaware president

Highmark announced that Nicholas A. Moriello,  has been appointed market president of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware (Highmark Delaware) effective August 20. 

 Moriello follows Timothy J. Constantine who  served as the president of Highmark Delaware since 2001 and as a senior executive at United Concordia for the last year.  Constantine will now serve full-time as the president and chief operating officer of United Concordia, Highmark’s national dental organization.    

“In his 17 years as president, Tim has a built a legacy of service to Highmark Delaware and our members.  Tim has shown tremendous dedication to the health and wellness of our members and all Delawareans,” said Deborah Rice-Johnson, Highmark Health Plan president.  “We congratulate Tim on his full-time move to United Concordia and welcome Nick to Highmark.  Nick brings with him an extensive knowledge of the health insurance industry combined with a deep commitment and understanding of the Delaware community, his over 25 years’ experience in Delaware make him an ideal fit to serve as our market president.”

 Prior to this role, Moriello was with Savoy serving as vice president, Consumer, Medicare and Government Affairs. Savoy is a regional insurance broker.

Before joining Savoy, Moriello owned and operated Health Insurance Associates. Under his leadership, Health Insurance Associates grew to one of the largest independent health insurance agencies in the tri-state area  of Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

 Moriello holds a bachelor’s degree from DeSales University and was recently appointed Chair of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) National Legislative Council and to the NAHU Board of Trustees.   

He is a Delaware native and deeply involved in the community. He currently serves on the Delaware Center for Health Innovation Board of Directors, the Delaware Health Resources Board, and the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors. 

 Constantine, who was appointed president in 2001, served as vice president of network and medical management prior to being appointed president.  In addition to his role as president Constantine also serves as a board member with The United Way of Delaware (past chair), Wesley College, Delaware Center for Health Innovation, Delaware Business Roundtable, and the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors. 

Constantine has led the company through a time of unprecedented change in the health care industry, including the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion in Delaware.  

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware serves approximately 435,000 members through the company’s health care benefits business. That enrollment is equivalent to nearly 40 percent of the state’s population.
