The Delaware Division of Public Health Office of Food Protection ordered two restaurants to clean up their act in the past week. Both restaurants reopened.

The office received a complaint and video footage appearing to show rodents in bags of rolls at the Burger King located on Route  202 in north Wilmington on Friday, June 1.

Inspectors went in the same day to conduct a visual inspection of the premises and the complaint was founded to be justified.

Due to gross unsanitary conditions, OFP ordered the food establishment closed immediately.

Inspectors returned on Monday for a re-inspection requested by the establishment.  Inspectors found all violations to be corrected and all conditions to be met. The food establishment was permitted to reopen on  Monday.

The Division of Public Health Office of Food Protection (OFP) received two complaints (from the same source on Tuesday about mice seen at the Smyrna Waffle House.

Inspectors found evidence of a rodent infestation and immediately closed the restaurant.

The establishment may request re-inspection no earlier than Thursday, June 7  and must provide documentation that requested pest control services have been provided and that other violations have been corrected as well.  The  Delaware State News  reported that the restaurant opened on Thursday.

“Instances such as this and the one at Burger King on Concord Pike are why we encourage the public to report concerns to our Office of Food Protection complaint line, 302-744-4736. The public’s observations and information are extremely helpful to address concerns that arise between DPH inspections,” the food protection office stated.
