Delaware ends up in 16th place in ranking of strongest economies

Delaware ended up ranking No. 16 in a listing of states with the strongest economies from financial advice site Wallet Hub.

Delaware finished just behind No. 15 Maryland and well ahead of Pennsylvania’s 24th place finish. New Jersey ranked 22nd.

Coming in at No. 51 was Louisiana. Washington, with a diverse technology-based economy that includes Amazon.com, Microsoft, Boeing and Costco ranked first.

Delaware’s highest finish came in potential for innovation at 15, with rankings of 16 and 19 in economic activity and economic health.

In what might be seen as a cautionary note for legislators who seem to be moving toward approval of a state budget with a sizable spending increase, Delaware ranks third from the bottom out of 50 states and the District of Columbia in budget surplus per capita.

WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 28 key indicators of economic performance and strength.
