An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Delaware on Sunday with worsening air quality expected Monday, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control reported.

The alert comes in addition to normal precautions for hot days that include caution in exercising and drinking plenty of fluids.

All of the ingredients for a poor air day – high temperatures, sunny skies, light winds and rising regional concentrations of ozone and pollutants – will be in place, DNREC reported.

The highest concentration is expected along the I-95 Corridor in northern Delaware with peak occurring late in the day.

Air quality will worsen further on Monday as the carry over of pollutants from Sunday, coupled with weekday high local emissions and another very warm and sunny day will result in USG (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) range ozone levels.

A  break could come on Tuesday as a “backdoor” front will bring clouds and a chance of rain. The timing of this front is still uncertain, DNREC reported.
