One man was injured Monday morning when an elevator dropped six to eight feet in a downtown office building.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Wilmington firefighters were dispatched to 800 North King Street, the former  Delmarva Power headquarters building.

Crews were able to determine one passenger was in the elevator and that the elevator fell  six to eight feet.

Firefighters secured power to the elevator that was stopped between the first floor and the basement floor. A man was found to be alert but was experiencing back pain.

He was placed in a stokes basket and lifted from the elevator through a nearly three-foot opening. The patient was turned over to St. Francis EMS and NCC Paramedics for evaluation and transport to the Wilmington Hospital.
