Hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide leak reported at refinery

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control reported Thursday morning that a leak at the Delaware City Refining Co. led to the release of more than 100 pounds of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide.

The release was reported at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

The chemicals are considered to be hazardous by the EPA.

This incident is currently under investigation by DNREC.

The leak came from a process unit and was ongoing at the time it was reported. Work is underway to correct the problem.

The refinery has reported few such releases in the past year. Delaware City Refining is owned by PBF Energy.
