Two more restaurants are headed to Market Street.
Margaux is coming to 902 N. Market on the upper end of the former Market Street Mall in downtown.
The restaurant has not announced an opening date, but noted in Facebook posts that it is now interviewing for staff and testing its menu.
The restaurant will feature French cuisine at the building housing the Residences at Rodney Square. The building set the stage for apartment conversions and new construction in the Market Street area. The building was once the home of offices and Delaware Trust Co.
Also, Bardea Food & Drink is coming to 620 N. Market St., according to the Delaware Business Times.
The location formerly housed Kennedy Fried Chicken, a popular downtown lunch destination.
Both restaurants will be housed in properties developed by Buccini/Pollin Group. BPG leading redevelopment efforts along Market Street.
In late 2016, the owners of the north Market Kennedy Fried Chicken location were involved in a leasing dispute with Buccini/Pollin over the property. At the time, the site was slated to become an Italian restaurant.
News of the two restaurants come after the opening of Stitch Housing Brewing near the location of Margaux.
The openings, as well as continuing development of apartments in the area bring hope that Market Street is gaining critical mass that will draw more people to what was once the business hub of Delaware.
Also in the works at the end of north Market Street is the redevelopment of the DuPont Building, which is slated to get a multi-tenant “food hall.”
The landmark building will also see newly configured space for the headquarters of Chemours Co., the DuPont Co. spinoff, that is also building a new research center at the University of Delaware’s STAR Campus in Newark.
