Despite, a long-running effort to bolster technology employment in Delaware, the number of jobs in the key sector posted a slight decline.
Figures come from the CyberStates report from CompTIA, a trade group for the information technology industry.
Delaware saw a drop of 280 jobs according to the report. That added up to a loss of 550 jobs over the past two years
The job losses the First State in 47th place among the 50 states in the job growth/loss category. Delaware is slightly below the national average in the percentage of tech jobs in the employment market.
While the 280 was a small number, it stands in sharp contrast to neighboring Maryland, which saw a gain of more than 2,000 jobs, and Pennsylvania, which posted a gain of more than 4,000 positions.

By contrast, the smaller Baltimore metro area saw a gain of 1,700 jobs.
The labor supply appeared to be a problem when it came to technology employment in Delaware, with an 87 percent increase in technology job openings.

Delaware has been working to increase tech employment with programs like Zip Code Delaware, a fast-track coding program.
Filling technology positions would provide a big boost for the Delaware economy. According to the Cyberstates report, Delaware saw a nearly 87 percent increase in technology job openings.
Technology jobs in Delaware pay an average of nearly $102,000, a year, compared to the average salary in Delaware of $55,000.
