Bancroft Construction Company, Wilmington, was awarded a National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in the General Contractor: Historical ─ $25-$100 Million.

Representatives from the company received  the award last month during the 28th annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at ABC Convention 2018 in Long Beach, CA.

The New Heights Fountain Revitalization Project involved the comprehensive restoration of Longwood Gardens’ Main Fountain Garden.

Major aspects of the two-year, $90 million project involved a complete rebuild of the garden’s mechanical/electrical systems including the installation of 1,719 jets and streams powered by 68 pumps, over five miles of piping, 1,400 linear feet of tunnels, and underground storage tanks to hold 338,570 gallons of water, as well as the historic preservation of the garden originally built in 1928.

Several of the design concepts include a new stair at the East Wall, a Grotto at the Loggia, and a new trellis bridge at the western end of the South Wall Arches connecting with the proposed Pumphouse Plaza. The Main Fountain Garden reopened to the public in May 2017.

The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition that honors both general and specialty contractors for innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety, and cost.

“It’s been an honor to be recognized for these national awards by two of the most prestigious associations in the construction industry,” said Greg Sawka,  CEO of Bancroft Construction. “The project was a true team effort from a multitude of Bancroft departments, including Preconstruction, Operations, and Marketing. We applaud our trusted partner Longwood Gardens in the great success of this project, and are honored to have worked on such a significant project in their history.”

Also, Bancroft was also awarded the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and Construction Risk Partners Build America Award in the category of Construction Management Renovation.

The Construction Risk Partners Build America awards honor AGC members who build the nation’s most impressive construction projects ranging across the building, highway and transportation, utility infrastructure, and federal and heavy divisions.
