Happy hump day,

I don’t know about you, but I am ready for some warmer weather.

With that in mind, it was a little startling to read that a going away party was on tap for Firestone Roasting House on the  Wilmington Riverfront this weekend.

Based on a quick look at the  Facebook post, many feared the worst from the headline “Farewell to Firestone.”

It turns out that management is taking advantage of the forecast of warmer weather to hold an event that opens the deck and paves the way for a new name.

The establishment is slated to become  Docklands Riverfront   and has already rolled out a spiffy new website. Other changes are coming.

The Delaware restaurant and entertainment spot typically has a low profile over the winter, although it offers dining and entertainment year around and some tables along the riverfront.

Summers can get crowded, thanks to after work get-togethers and other events at an expansive area that includes a large outdoor bar.

The name change was overdue. To those not familiar with the place, the name Firestone Roasting House sounded like one of those increasingly popular coffee spots.

Firestone is known for known for its pizza oven and management made clear that the pies are not going away.

The historic building that houses Firestone-Docklands at one time housed a high-end steak spot. The venue’s popularity took off when the outdoor area was added. Here’s a previous story on the sale. Big Fish is no longer a manager of the property.

Enjoy your day. Our newsletter returns tomorrow. – Doug Rainey, publisher.
