It’s all about clicks and eyeballs

Good morning all,

We learned at last month’s meet of the media session sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America that the DelawareOnline website and those running it are not particularly interested in posts that attract fewer than 5,000 page views.

As a niche website and newsletter, Delaware Business Now  doesn’t  operate in that big of a space. A post that draws 50 views is OK – if the news is of value to our readers.

Stories about crime, restaurants, and fires bring a lot of traffic. But in the world we inhabit, good news or posts that let readers know about a community need remain a priority.

Two examples of stories with a healthy amount of traffic on our website were the sale of the DuPont Country Club to a family member and a partner, and a plea from the Blood Bank of Delaware for blood donations after a long bout of winter weather.

We hope that in a small way we increased the awareness of the need for donations.

The DelawareOnline newspaper/website operates from a much bigger stage and caters to multiple audiences. Its need for clicks is vast.

Our readers are looking for breaking the business news that by its very nature will not usually draw a vast amount of traffic. And we’re fine with that.

Have a fine Tuesday and check out our stories.   Our newsletter returns tomorrow. – Doug and Sharon Rainey
